What To Expect: Dr. Evans now offers a new fast and minimally invasive outpatient procedure for treatment of heavy menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia). HerOption is performed in the office and is an alternative to hormones or hysterectomy. The procedure is covered by many health plans.
Preprocedure: No pre-treatment hormones are required and the procedure can be performed at any time during a woman's cycle. Under local anesthesia, a freezing probe is placed thru the cervix and destroys the lining of the uterus(endometrium). This is the safest endometrial ablation since we monitor the procedure with ultrasound.
Postprocedure: Most Women are able to resume normal activities in a couple of days. Sex is ok after 2-3 weeks. This procedure results with most women experiencing light menses and in 50 percent of women total cessation of menses occurs.
